AQUOS LC-80LE632U 80" LED-LCD TV - 16:9 - HDTV 1080p - 1080p - 120 Hz

This of course is not my first HD TV. My first was a Toshiba DLP, and it was a lamp hog. Then a Toshiba 50 inch plasma, which failed in 3 years, then LG's first 1080p 60 inch plasma (Still working great#, a Mitsubishi 73 inch DLP, #Still working great), and now, the ultimate plunge with this Sharp 80 inch TV. My viewing area for this TV is 12 feet at its closest and 15 at the farthest, and I instantly thought when I turned this monster on, that I should have stayed with the 70 incher. Oh well, it is mine and I am happy with it, and the picture is so clear, 10 feet would be a good viewing distance. For its size, this TV is well made and looks nice. Picture quality is excellent as close as 3 feet, and then as far back as you can go. Although I did not purchase this TV from Best Buy, I did purchase this TV from a major retailer in Texas because they beat the Best Buy Price, and Amazon would not take 2 credit cards. G. E. also gave me more 36 months interest free credit at the Texas retailer than they did at Amazon on the store card, and Best Buy reward zone card ticked me off by lowering my credit limit, so I closed the account so both Best Buy and Amazon lost the sale. I also looked for quite awhile at the, the Sharp 70 inch, and the Panasonic 65 inch VT30 Plasma, and I chose this TV for several reasons. Overall for size, quality, and looks, coupled with its truly great picture and excellent blacks. Remember, the better the blacks, the better the color, because black is the number one color in the color scheme. I gave this TV 5 Stars because of its numerous features and control ability with its menus. The picture is also superb, but the Panasonic 65VT30 still has a little better picture quality. LED is rapidly gaining on plasma though. Overall, I love this TV, and I will finally stop looking for awhile, because it is like being in a movie theater every time I turn it on. It also does not have the delay when turned on like the Mitsubishi DLP. The other good thing is when this TV is on all day, it is cool to the touch, where the Panasonic plasma is not. Some settings from the calibration of my set, which I noticed was great out of the box, but it was somewhat to the red side on the tints. My calibration settings are as follows, and this was professionally done, and will help the rest of you get yours close. Mine now rocks! Picture Settings Mode - Standard Back light +8 Contrast + 26 Brightness + 8 Color +5 Tint + 8 to green Sharpness + 5 Advanced C.M.S. Hue Red -1 Yellow - 2 Magenta + 2 C.M.S. Saturation all at 0 C.M.S. Value all at 0 Color Temp all at 0 Active contrast On Gamma - 1 Range of OPC Max +4 Min -2 These settings should get yours into the calibrated ball park, and I have messed with the Sharp line of large TVs for quite awhile, and they are all somewhat to the red side out of the box. I also would not want to ruin a perfect record of reviews by giving this TV any less than 5 stars, because I cannot. This TV deserves and has earned all 5 stars in this rating. UPDATE I started having picture problems with mine the next day, and almost sent it back, but I found a loose Monster HDMI cable, and it was also defective. A new monoprice cable for 10 bucks fixed the problem, and the picture is absolutely stunning. So do not trust anything. Always check your cables, and don't pay those high prices for Monster Cables. They're not worth the price difference, and are way over priced.

I couldn't be more pleased with this television! I have the screen wall mounted in my home theater. The picture is absolutely AMAZING! This was the first NON-Samsung television I have purchased for my home. I have over a dozen Samsung flat panel LED and Plasma TV's ranging from 32" to 55" - so I was a bit skeptical that the Sharp would compete with Samsung's picture. When I first turned it on, I did notice that the HD movies look fake (Like the old "Dr. Who" episodes where the lighting is really bad). I was a bit frustrated at first but I went into the settings and turned off all of the image enhance settings. Once I did that, the picture was absolutely PERFECT! I actually don't know how the speakers sound since I've never used them - I am have the screen connected to a Denon AVR-3312CI. The setup is better than I could have ever imagined! I did have to adjust the delay for speech since there is a slight delay due to the digital timing of the HDMI cable through the receiver. This took a bit of work but I eventually nailed it. No visible delays or pixelation - explosions, digital animation, etc... looks fluid. PS3 and XBOX 360 games also look AMAZING on this screen! If you are contemplating this TV - man up and buy it!!! You won't be disappointed!

Coming from a plasma tv I understood the limitations of LED/LCD tv. Off angle viewing is not as good on this tv, but the picture is much brighter than a plasma. Right out of the box, the image quality in movie mode is good, but I would advise getting it professionally calibrated to really open your eyes. One thing to look for with this tv because of it's size is clouding issues. Most of the time you can not see it, and over there first week or two, most of it disappears, but if it doesn't and it bothers you in dark scenes, by all means return it. You likely will see it if your crank up the backlight, which is a problem with most LED/LCD tv's. Just the way it is with current technology unless you spend several thousands more on the Sharp Elites. It's not a perfect tv, but for the price and features, it is worth it.
